Apply for ASOC exam

Online registration and examination through Saral Sanchar (WPC, DoT).

Application steps

  1. Register on Saral Sanchar

    Create an account at saralsanchar.gov.in. All amateur radio applications have been online-only since 1 August 2020.

  2. Choose exam grade

    Restricted Grade (1 hour, 25 questions per section) or General Grade (2 hours, 50 questions per section plus Morse at 8 wpm). You may apply for both in one application (₹200 total exam fee).

  3. Fill personal and location details

    Enter name, address, PAN, height, and GPS coordinates at your station location. Upload passport photo, signature, DOB proof, and Aadhaar address proof.

  4. Pay exam fee via NTRP

    Exam fee is ₹100 per grade (₹200 if both). Pay through the Non-Tax Receipt Portal (bharatkosh.gov.in) under account head 127500103050100 — Proficiency Certificate.

  5. Await exam intimation

    The Wireless Monitoring Station will SMS and email the date, venue, and time when sufficient candidates are registered. Exams may be held at your location if 20 or more candidates apply together.

  6. Appear with admit card and ID

    Download your admit card from Saral Sanchar. Bring one original photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, driving licence, PAN, or voter ID) plus any exemption or minor undertaking documents.

  7. Apply for station licence after passing

    On passing ASOC, apply for an Amateur Wireless Telegraph Station Licence on Saral Sanchar. Licence fee: ₹1,000 (20 years) or ₹2,000 (lifetime up to age 80) per grade.
